Barbara Carswell Washburn, age 80 of Forest City died Thursday, February 22, 2018. Barbara was born February 9, 1938 in Rutherford County and was a daughter of the late Earl Francis Carswell and Emma Lee Arrowood Carswell. She was a graduate of Cool Springs High School and a member of First Baptist Church of Forest City.
During her career she worked as a bookkeeper , working for the Men's Store in Forest City and Smith Drug Stores 1 and 2, Bill Turner Chevrolet, B&R Oil Transport and Fast Foods. Barbara later worked for BB&T as a teller at both the downtown Forest City and Ellenboro branches as well as Carter Bank.
Survivors include her son, Richard Washburn of Forest City, brother, Thomas Carswell and wife Kay of Bostic, sister, Evelyn Carswell of Forest City, a niece, Lynn Carswell Whittington and husband Tom of Greenville, SC, a nephew, Thomas Carswell and wife Laura of Clarksville, GA, as well as a number of cousins.
The funeral service will be held at 2 o'clock Monday, February 26, 2018 at The First Baptist Church of Forest City with Rev. Dr. Garin Hill and Rev. Paul White officiating. Interment will follow in the Cool Springs Cemetery. Visitation will be in the Church Parlor from 1 until 2 o'clock prior to the service.
