Alice Lehner Obituary

Alice Chenoweth Collins Lehner, age 81 of Rutherfordton died Sunday,  August 5, 2018 at St. Josephs Hospital in Asheville.  Alice was born June 16, 1937 in Shinnston, West Virginia and was a daughter of the late John Edward and Edna Currey Crim.  She was a Registered Nurse and attended Advent Lutheran Church in Spindale from 2008 until her death. 

Alice was a 1955 graduate of Washington Irving High School and she furthered her education by attaining her undergraduate nursing degree from Alderson-Broaddus College in Philippi, WV in 1959 , the University of Central Florida where she earned her Master's Degree (1982-83),  and additional course work at Anchorage Community College, the University of Alaska at Anchorage and Lenior-Rhyne College in Hickory.  Alice became a certified Rehabilitation Registered Nurse in 1989 and worked for 18 years at Caldwell Memorial Hospital in Lenoir.

She was member of the Sigma Theta Tau Honor Society of Nursing, a volunteer Parish Nurse with Rutherford Hospital and was an usher for the Isothermal Community College Performing Arts at the Foundation.   

Alice was preceded in death by her first husband, Noel Edwin Chenoweth,  her second husband James S. Collins, a son, Donovan Eugene Chenoweth and sister, Karen Ruth Crim.

With her many friends, she  traveled  to Egypt, England, Chile, Australia, the Caribbean Islands, Thailand, and Germany.  In 2009 she married Max E. Lehner and together they traveled the western United States. 

Survivors include her husband, Max E. Lehner of the home, two sons, John Edwin Chenoweth and wife Chris, Thomas Karl Chenoweth and wife Denise as well at three grandchildren, Zachary Thomas Chenoweth, Allison Lyn Chenoweth, and Ryan Rodriguez.

A memorial service will be held at 2 o'clock Tuesday, August 14, 2018 in The Padgett and King Chapel with Reverend David Hinkelman officiating.  Interment of her ashes will follow in the Cool Springs Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 1 until 2 o'clock prior to the service at the mortuary.
