Obituary:
Raleigh Wade Phillips, age 94, of Kent Drive, Forest City, died, Thursday, July 16, 2009, at the Hospice House in Forest City. A native of Thomaston, GA, he was a son of the late Wade Wilkie Phillips and Willie Mae Blount Phillips, retired from Southern Railway having worked as an agent for over 30 years, member of Crestview Baptist Church, and the National Railway Historical Society. He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Frankie Lucille Abernethy Phillips in 1993, a son, Harold Gene Phillips in 1950, and a sister, Corine Phillips English in 1989. Survivors include a daughter, Linda Phillips Campbell of Forest City, a grandson, James Guffey and his wife, Pamela of Gastonia, three great-grandchildren, Mary Beth Guffey, Phillip Guffey, and Hunter Caroline Guffey, all of Gastonia, and a niece, Linda English Long of Conyers, GA. Funeral services will be held Sunday, Two o’clock in the afternoon, July 19, 2009, at Crestview Baptist Church, Forest City, NC, with the Reverend Kevin Rohm, Reverend Boyce Gregory, and Reverend Tim Frazier officiating. Interment will follow in the Corinth Baptist Church Cemetery, Vale, NC. Visitation will be from 4 until 6 PM, Saturday, at The Padgett & King Mortuary, Forest City, NC.
