She was born July 1, 1921 in El Passo, Texas and a daughter of the late Francisco Legarreta and Irene Isabelle Ramirez Legarreta. She was also a retired cannery worker in San Jose, CA and assisted many families to establish themselves in the United States from Mexico before moving to Forest City, NC. She was the widow of the late Leo Mercado Lopez. Survivors include her son, Anthony Lopez and his wife Irene of Forest City, five grandchildren, Anthony Lopez and his wife Josephine , Marian Rodriguez and her husband Eddie, Irene Enriquez and her husband Frank, James Lopez and his wife Alejandra, and Denise Lopez. There are also 20 great grandchildren, 18 great- great grandchildren and many step grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at Three o’clock Thursday July 16, 2009 at The Padgett and King Mortuary. Interment will follow in the Cool Springs Cemetery. Visitation will be from Two until Three o’clock prior to the service.
