A native of Polk County, he is a son of the late Lawrence T. Jones and Christine Gibson Jones, worked as a plant manager with Metromont Materials, and was a veteran having served in the US Navy. He was preceded in death by a sister, Shirley Owens. Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Gail Waddell Jones, of the home, a son, David Jones and his wife Valerie of Bostic, three sisters, Peggy Harwell, Lois Jones, and Gena Wolf, all of Asheville, a life-long friend, Walt Splawn and his wife Karon of Rutherfordton. There are two grandsons, Cody and Jordan Jones of Bostic.
