Name: Robert Lee Peterson, Sr. Date: March 9th, 1920 - June 27th, 2009 Obituary: Robert Lee Peterson, Sr., age 89 of Aqua Drive, Forest City, NC died peacefully at his residence on Saturday, June 27, 2009 following a period of declining health. He was born March 9, 1920 in Mitchell County, NC and was a son of the late Ira Vaughn and Dorothy Bryant Peterson; a member of First Baptist Church and served in the United States Army during World War II. He attended both Brevard College and East Carolina State University and was retired from Torrington Company and was also a lumberman. Lee had a lifelong love for the game of basketball and was an outstanding player in college and afterwards. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Anna Lee Quinn Peterson. Survivors include his son, Dr. Robert Lee Peterson, Jr. and his wife Janet of Waynesville, NC, a daughter, Iris Deanne Batayte and her husband Louis of Forest City, a brother, Ford Peterson of Jonesboro, TN, two sisters, Elizabeth Hoilman of Jonesboro, TN, and Kate McKinney of Johnson City, TN. The family will hold a private memorial service at a later date.
