Mr. Mitchell Dan Hoyle, age 67 of Blanton Road, Forest City, died Saturday, June 13, 2009 at Frye Regional Medical Center, Hickory. A native of Rutherford County and former longtime resident of San Francisco, California, he was a son of the late Rufus S. Hoyle and Dot Hoyle. After earning a B.S. and M.A. degree in the biological sciences from Appalachian State University, Mr. Hoyle taught biology and botany at V.P.I and Middle Tennessee State University. Following a summer at Stanford University's Hopkins Marine Station, he was awarded a N.S.F .fellowship at the University of Hawaii where he earned a Ph.D. in marine botany. After teaching at Humboldt State and the University of Hawaii Manoa Campus, he devoted twenty five years in real estate where he retired as senior marketing consultant with Herth Real Estate, San Francisco. He was presently involved in the restoration of two historical North Carolina homes.
Survivors include his wife Linda Trevino of the home, a brother, Maurice “Rocky” Hoyle of Bostic; a niece and nephew, a step-niece and two step-nephews. In addition his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, McKeever Hoyle.
Funeral services will be held at 2 o’clock Thursday, June 18, 2009 at The Padgett and King Mortuary with Reverend Kevin Towery officiating. Interment will follow in the Alexander Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 1 until 2 pm Thursday at the mortuary. Memorials may be made to the Mitchell Hoyle and Paul Patacchiola Scholarship in Biology, c/o ASU Fundation, ASU Box 32064, Boone, NC 28608. The family will be at the home of the brother, 291 Oak Grove Church Road, Bostic. The Padgett and King Mortuary is in charge and an online guest registry is available at www.padgettking.com.
