Nancy Shanklin Stroud



Nancy Shanklin Stroud, age 86 of Rutherfordton, NC, went to be with the Lord Friday, May 5, 2017 at CarePartners Hospice in Asheville, NC. Nancy was born on December 29, 1930 in Washington D.C. She was the daughter of J.B. Shanklin and Nancy Moore Shanklin. Nancy is survived by four children, nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Son, Dewey Stroud and wife Rita of Rutherfordton, NC and their three children, Whitney Moody and her husband R.D. of Candler, NC and their children Maisie, Sullivan and Brooks, and Taylor and Conner Stroud, Son, Steve Stroud and wife Cathy of Arden, NC and their two children Caroline and Jacob, Son, Tommy Stroud of Tryon, NC, and Daughter, Jeanne Austin and husband Tommy of Chattanooga, TN and their four children Andrew, Stewie, William and Claire.

Nancy was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Herbert Dewey “Ted” Stroud, Jr. and her parents.

Nancy was a graduate of Gardner-Webb University and received her graduate degree from Western Carolina University. She had a heart for helping others and worked for many years in the Rutherford County Public School system as a guidance counselor. Among her interests were painting, book clubs, tennis and getting together with family and friends. She was an active member of the Rutherfordton Presbyterian Church and enjoyed Community Bible Study.

A memorial service will be held at eleven o'clock Friday in the Rutherfordton Presbyterian Church with Reverend Dr. Donald Scofield officiating. Inurnment will be private for the family in the church urn garden. Visitation will be from six until eight o'clock Thursday evening at The Padgett and King Mortuary.
