Roy Lewis McKain, age 89 of Ellenboro died Thursday, April 27, 2017 at Oak Grove Health Care. Roy was born on February 23, 1928 in Washingtonville, Ohio and was a son of the late Kenneth Clair McKain and Alberta Viola Ward McKain. In 1936 his family moved to Daytona Beach, Fl where he was educated in the public schools and graduated from Seabreeze High School. Roy then joined the United States Marine Corps and was sent to North China where he served from 1946 until 1947. He was a lifetime member and Past-Commander of the American Legion. Roy traveled both North and South Carolina with a barber and beauty supply company as a sales represenative and was a member of Concord Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Sue McKain and his second wife, Clara Sue Smart McKain.
He is survived by a number of step-children, step-grandchildren, a niece and a host of friends and neighbors.
A memorial service will be held at eleven o'clock Saturday in The Padgett and King Chapel with Reverend Travis Laflin officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:30 until the hour of service at the mortuary. Military honors will be accorded by the Rutherford County Honor Guard on the chapel lawn following the service. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Rutherford County, Post Office Box 336, Forest City, North Carolina 28043.

He is survived by his first wife, Mary Worth McKain, 4 children, Dale Bonum McKain, Calista McKain Foisy, myself and Mary Beth McKain Dew. He has 5 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
